About Me | Cityscape & Landscape Photographer

My name is Arnout Rebel, a passionate cityscape and landscape photographer based in Purmerend, the Netherlands. I specialize in capturing urban and natural environments with a strong focus on light, atmosphere, and timing. While I enjoy photographing a wide range of scenes, I am particularly drawn to cityscapes during the blue hour—that brief, magical window when streetlights come alive and the sky shifts into deep shades of blue.

Photography has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. As a child, I was always the one documenting family vacations with a camera. When my children were born, photography became even more meaningful as I captured everyday moments and milestones. Like many creative passions, it temporarily faded as daily responsibilities took priority, but about six years ago, I fully reconnected with photography—this time with a clear vision and renewed dedication.

During a period when I was searching for calm and focus, photography became more than just a hobby. It evolved into a mindful practice that helped me slow down and truly observe my surroundings. I developed my technical skills through online learning, but a workshop with professional photographer Dave Zuuring proved to be a turning point. Photographing the iconic John Frost Bridge during blue hour fundamentally changed how I approach composition, light, and storytelling.

Today, I frequently head out early in the morning or around sunset to capture cities at their most atmospheric moments. The quiet streets, soft light, and interaction between architecture and landscape continue to inspire my work. My photography is not only about the final image, but about the process—patience, observation, and being present in the moment.

I continuously challenge myself, explore new locations, and refine my craft with every series I create.
